Introduction
IndicStudio built Indic Files as an offline, privacy-first file workspace. We believe that your file structure and personal documents belong solely to you. This Privacy Policy details how Indic Files accesses, processes, and retains file information on your device.
Information Collection and Processing
Indic Files collects zero personal data, usage metrics, device identifiers, or telemetry.
- Local File Processing: All directory reading, text file creation, renaming, copying, moving, and deletion occur strictly on your local device.
- No Cloud Sync or Server Transmission: Indic Files does not operate remote servers, cloud databases, or backend accounts.
- Manifest Audit: The application manifest (AndroidManifest.xml) does not declare the android.permission.INTERNET permission. The app has no technical capability to connect to the internet or transmit information off your device.
Storage Architecture and Permissions
Storage Access Framework (SAF)
Unlike legacy file managers, Indic Files does not request whole-device storage scanning permissions (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE or READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE).
- When you choose to browse a system directory (such as Downloads or an SD card), you interact directly with Android's system document picker (OpenDocumentTree).
- The app only receives access tokens to the specific folder you grant, which are persisted locally on your device via SharedPreferences.
- You can revoke access or unmount any folder at any time from the Workspaces tab.
App Sandbox
The app maintains a local sandbox directory (context.getExternalFilesDir(null) / context.filesDir) for fast, isolated file creation and testing that requires zero device permissions.
User-Initiated Data Sharing
If you choose the Share action on a file, the file's content URI is provided to Android's native share sheet (ACTION_SEND) via FileProvider. You retain full discretion over which third-party application receives the file. Indic Files does not monitor, log, or track your sharing activities.
Third-Party SDKs and Advertising
- Advertising: None. The app contains no ad networks or tracking SDKs.
- Analytics & Telemetry: None. No analytics libraries (such as Google Analytics or Firebase) are bundled with the app.
- Third-Party Libraries: The app only uses verified, open-source AndroidX and Jetpack libraries for UI rendering and lifecycle management.
Data Retention and Deletion
- App Data Deletion: Deleting files within the app removes them from the respective directory immediately.
- Uninstallation: Uninstalling the application automatically deletes the app sandbox and all preferences. Files stored in mounted system folders (SAF) remain intact in your device storage unless you explicitly delete them inside the app before uninstalling.
- Backup: As declared in AndroidManifest.xml (android:allowBackup="true"), system settings may be included in encrypted Android OS device backups managed by Google according to your Android account settings.
Children’s Privacy
Indic Files does not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children or any other users.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
