Overview & Commitment to Privacy
IndicStudio built Indic Compress as a completely offline, on-device image compression and format optimization utility. Your privacy is paramount: Indic Compress does not collect, track, transmit, or monetize any user data or photos.
Information Collection and Use
- Photos and Images: When you select an image via the Android System Photo Picker, the image is loaded strictly into device memory (RAM) and processed locally on your phone's processor. Your photos never leave your device and are never transmitted over the internet.
- Personal Information: Indic Compress does not require registration, login, email addresses, phone numbers, or user profiles.
- Device & Usage Analytics: Indic Compress contains no telemetry, diagnostic trackers, or third-party advertising SDKs.
Metadata & EXIF Handling
Digital photos often contain embedded Exchangeable Image File Format (EXIF) metadata, which may include precise GPS geographic coordinates, camera make and model, device serial numbers, and creation timestamps.
- Privacy Stripping Option: By default, Indic Compress offers an automated metadata stripping feature that removes sensitive GPS tags and hardware identifiers before you save or share compressed images.
- Orientation Correction: Indic Compress inspects the EXIF orientation tag solely to ensure the output image is correctly rotated and upright before metadata is stripped.
- Original Files Preserved: Your original source photos are opened in read-only mode and are never modified, overwritten, or deleted by Indic Compress.
Permissions & Storage Architecture
Indic Compress follows modern Android security best practices and does not declare any invasive or dangerous permissions:
- No Internet Access: The application does not request the android.permission.INTERNET permission.
- System Photo Picker: Image selection uses the standard Android System Photo Picker (ActivityResultContracts.PickVisualMedia). The application only receives temporary read access to the specific images you explicitly choose.
- Scoped Storage: Compressed images are exported directly to public device storage (Pictures/IndicCompress) using the Android MediaStore API, or saved to a directory of your choice via the Storage Access Framework (SAF).
- Secure Sharing: When you tap "Share", images are shared using an AndroidX FileProvider content URI with the explicit FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION flag, ensuring only the target application you choose can read the compressed file.
Data Retention and Deletion
- Local History: Indic Compress maintains a local SQLite history log of your compression records (filename, original/compressed sizes, dimensions, and timestamp) stored exclusively in your app's private internal storage.
- One-Tap Deletion: You can permanently delete individual history records or clear the entire history log at any time using the "Clear All History" action within the app.
- App Uninstallation: Uninstalling Indic Compress permanently removes all application cache and history records. Exported photos saved to your device's Gallery (Pictures/IndicCompress) remain on your device under your control.
Third-Party Services
Indic Compress does not integrate any third-party analytics (such as Google Analytics or Firebase), advertising networks, or tracking services.
Children's Privacy
Because Indic Compress does not collect or transmit any personally identifiable information, it complies fully with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and international child privacy regulations.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
IndicStudio may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with a revised Effective Date.
