Executive Summary
Indic Level is built with a strict offline-first and privacy-by-design architecture. The application does not collect, track, transmit, monetize, or sell any personal or non-personal user information. All angle measurements, sensor evaluations, and calibration settings stay exclusively on your local device.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- No Personal Information: We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account credentials.
- No Location Data: We do not request or access GPS, coarse location, or cell network positioning.
- No Identifiers: We do not access advertising IDs (GAID), Android IDs, IMEI, or MAC addresses.
- No Diagnostics or Analytics: We do not integrate any third-party analytics SDKs (such as Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, or Flurry).
- No Crash Logging to Remote Servers: We do not transmit crash logs to external tracking servers.
- No Advertising: The application contains no banner ads, interstitial ads, or tracking beacons.
On-Device Sensor Processing & Local Storage
Hardware Sensor Access
Indic Level utilizes your device's built-in orientation sensors (Sensor.TYPE_ROTATION_VECTOR, Sensor.TYPE_GRAVITY, or Sensor.TYPE_ACCELEROMETER) to calculate pitch, roll, and tilt angles.
- Sensor data is processed entirely in volatile device RAM in real time.
- Sensor measurements are never written to disk or recorded into persistent history logs.
- Sensor listeners are actively unregistered and detached whenever the application is paused, backgrounded, or destroyed to prevent background monitoring and conserve battery life.
Local Settings Storage (DataStore Preferences)
The application locally stores your user preferences using Android Jetpack DataStore:
- Surface zero calibration pitch and roll offsets.
- Preferred angle measurement unit (Degrees, Slope %, mm/m, in/ft, Radians).
- Viscosity damping mode (Fast, Balanced, Smooth).
- Haptic and audio feedback preferences.
- Notice acknowledgment flags.
This configuration data is stored exclusively in your device's private sandboxed application storage and is never uploaded.
Permissions Requested
The application requests only a single normal permission:
| Permission | Purpose | | :--- | :--- | | android.permission.VIBRATE | Normal protection permission used exclusively to trigger a short (35ms) tactile feedback pulse when the spirit level bubble enters the aligned target range (< ±0.4°). Automatically granted at install time. |
Indic Level does not request:
- INTERNET or ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
- READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE or WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
- ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION or ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
- CAMERA or RECORD_AUDIO
Third-Party SDKs and Libraries
Indic Level is built exclusively with official open-source Android Jetpack libraries provided by Google:
- Jetpack Compose (UI)
- AndroidX Lifecycle & ViewModel
- AndroidX DataStore Preferences
- Material 3 Design Components
None of these libraries include telemetry, trackers, or hidden networking hooks.
Data Retention and Backup
- Retention: Calibration offsets and settings remain on your device until you reset them or uninstall the app.
- Android Auto Backup: Depending on your Android OS configuration and Google Drive backup settings, local app preferences may be included in encrypted Android operating system backups managed by Google Play Services. You can disable this in your Android device settings under System > Backup.
- Deletion: Uninstalling Indic Level immediately and permanently purges all locally stored preferences from your device.
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
Indic Level does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The application is completely safe for all audiences and contains no age-inappropriate content.
Changes to This Policy
If we update our privacy practices in future versions of Indic Level, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy and provide notes within the application's release notes.
